Experience Tremé
The United States’ oldest neighborhood of “free people of color” and home to some of New Orleans’ most recognizable cultural legacies. Discover the history of Creole architecture, second line parades , jazz music, and more. Tremé has given rise to many of New Orleans most beloved musicians for two centuries and continues to foster the unique spirit of New Orleans today. The NOAAM offers the following tours:
Tremé Walking Tour
Explore historic Tremé! Stroll through the oldest African American neighborhood in America, birthplace of jazz and important New Orleans cultural innovations. The walking tour starts in the heart of Tremé, at the beautiful Meilleur-Goldthwaite Villa at the New Orleans African American Museum. It surveys 300 years of local history and includes stops at St. Augustine Church, the Backstreet Cultural Museum, Congo Square, the Candle Light Lounge, Tuba Fats Square, and much more. Participants will learn about the historical achievements of free people of color and the enslaved African population, Jazz history, second line traditions, Mardi Gras Indians, the New Orleans civil rights movement, as well as Creole architecture and building traditions.
Tours leave:Saturdays at 10 a.m. at the New Orleans African American Museum. There is a five (5) person minimum for the walking tour.
If you have a Groupon voucher holder, you must also complete the request form and bring your voucher to the museum the day of the tour. We
Length: approximately 2 hours; includes complimentary admission to museum.
Rates: $23 adults, $19 students and seniors, $12 children (2-12).

Tremé Bus Tour
This tour is offered to groups only and will accommodate pickups in the downtown New Orleans area. It includes one stop with complimentary admission to The New Orleans African American Museum in the historic Tremé neighborhood. Tour length: approximately two and one half hours. Rates: $35 per person with a minimum of 10 and maximum of 28 passengers per tour (multiple tours can run at the same time with with 10-14 people (minivan) and 15-28 people (coach).

Museum Group Tours/Field Trips
The New Orleans African American Museum is a wonderful destination for group tours. We invite your school, church, and or social group (15 or more persons) to schedule a tour of the museum, where individuals can experience the rich African American culture of New Orleans in historic Tremé. We are located just three blocks from the French Quarter, in the heart of Tremé, on the site of the city’s first brickyard. The NOAAM's six building campus includes two Creole cottages, a double Creole cottage, a double shotgun house, slave quarters and the historic Meilleur-Goldthwaite House, built in 1828, one of the city’s finest examples of Creole center-hall villa construction. Exhibits cover African American history, culture and fine arts.
